Gavop, using Census Bureau data, has found that between 1980 and 2016, most new home construction in Texas took place from 1990 through 2009.

Specifically, out of all Texas homes built 1980-2016, 58.48 percent of them were constructed between 1990 and 2009. Conversely, only 27.15 percent of the homes were built between 1980 and 1989, and 14.37 percent of them were constructed between 2010 and 2016.

The values in Texas resembled national trends. A study of all U.S. homes constructed from 1980 through 2016 shows that 29.52 percent were completed 1980-1989; 61.28 percent were built 1990-2009, and the remaining 9.2 percent were constructed 2010-2016.

Within Texas, Hays County saw the lowest level of home construction activity between 1980 and 1989, comprising 15.19 percent of all Hays County home construction between 1980 and 2016. At the opposite end of the spectrum was Tom Green County, where 45.57 percent of the homes built between 1980 and 2016 were completed in 1980-1989.
