The average rate of car insurance in the state of Texas is $1,500. Residents of San Antonio can breathe a sigh of relief as the average is slightly lower than the state average. The population in San Antonio though, is rapidly rising. It adds almost 60 people in a day. Gavop’s research found the average cost of insurance in San Antonio is $1,375. The lowest that a car owner in San Antonio has to pay is $1,165 and the highest that one would have to pay is $1,696. The state capital of Texas,  Austin has an average car insurance rate of $1,284, while the city of Houston, pays a massive $1,512 on the same. This clearly indicates that the cost of insurance changes depending on one’s area of residence. Other factors such as gender, make of your car, driving record, and age influence the amount of the deductible and the cost of one’s insurance. Another important factor is the theft-rate in the city. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) ranks San Antonio 78th on the list of the “nation’s 10 largest cities in terms of car thefts per resident”. This is not too bad, considering the fact that Los Angeles, California, and the neighboring city of Houston rank much higher on the list.

In San Antonio, male teenagers pay the most when it comes to car insurance. Car insurance seems to be the cheapest for married women in San Antonio. The difference between married men and women in this respect is about $412. The average cost of car insurance for a married woman is lesser than the average cost of car insurance for women in general.. The difference being around $55. Gavop deduces that the cost of car insurance is lesser for women (be it teenagers, married or senior citizens) in comparison to their male counterparts. Teenagers who account for 7 percent of the population (52% male, 48% female) shell out the most when it comes to car insurance. Male teenagers pay a hefty amount of $3,135, which is more than what teens pay in the neighboring cities of Castle Hills and Leon Valley.

Households who own multiple cars can avail further benefits from insurance companies in San Antonio. 36% of the total population own 2 vehicles. Bundling, i.e. the cost of insuring two vehicles, costs lower in San Antonio than in the cities of Shavano Park and Hollywood Park, Texas.

Further, the addition of parts that are hard to replace would make car insurance more expensive. The cost of insurance is also directly proportional to the cost of repairs on one’s vehicle.
